An allergic reaction is really an over reaction by your body to an insect sting. The over reaction may include hives, swelling, coughing, congestion and, in some cases, shock and possibly death. If you have a reaction to stings, please consult your physician on the best way of treatment. For some, going out and working in the garden or going on a picnic, even just being outside can be a terrifying experience. At certain times of the summer, stinging bees, hornets, wasps and yellow jackets can be all around us. For many, this is not a big problem. For others, it is very scary. If you are allergic, often you can carry special medicine that can be injected in case of a sting. If, for some reason, you forget your medicine and are stung, this can be a frightful experience. Epi-pens can, and do, fail as well. There are ways of getting help. Your doctor can administer venom therapy treatments. If you or your doctor suspects that you are allergic, a simple test can be given. A tiny amount of venom is injected into your skin. This procedure is typical for all allergy testing. Depending on the reaction on the skin, your doctor can determine how allergic you are and to what kind of venom you are most vulnerable. If you are allergic to stings, you can undergo a treatment that will greatly reduce your allergic reaction if you get stung. To prevent this allergic reaction, your doctor can treat your allergy by injecting small amounts of the venom to which you are allergic. Gradually your doctor will increase the amounts of the venom until your body has built an immunity. Then you can take a full sting and not have your body over-react. At this point, the only problem you will have is the minor discomfort of getting stung. After this you can maintain this level of immunity with injections about once a month. This is the most effective treatment in all of medicine. Treatment is the best way of dealing with sting allergies. Then you can enjoy summer activities without fearing the harm of stings. After you begin treatments your doctor will often give some sort of protective medicine while you are building immunity. In order to get the venom, labs have collectors such as myself.
